Creating a Cookie Banner

 Before you begin

In order to successfully create and activate a Cookie Banner, you will need to have created a section with a domain; this, however, is an admin user task to perform. Also, is your tracking script installed? Without it, the cookie banner will not appear in your website.

Have you read our material on cookies and consent yet? Perhaps you'd like to read more about cookies before creating a Cookie Banner.

Cookie banners are most essential: with cookie banners you may get the visitors' explicit consent to gather their browsing data in order to have more information about their engagement with your website.

You must always display a message regarding cookies in your website for your visitors, so maybe go ahead and make one if you are unsure of where to begin.

Make sure you have your cookie policy link in hand and a somewhat clear idea of how your banner should look like and behave.

Create and Activate

1. Head over to the Website tool. You can do so from the shortcut on the calendar page or from your Tools page.

Details

This is the very first step of creating your cookie banner. In this step, we will be fixing up the essential settings of your banner.

Cookie5.jpg

1. Enter a working name for your cookie banner.

It is internal and will not be seen by your visitors, its purpose is for you to be able to tell it apart from other cookie banners in your APSIS One account.

Cookie6.jpg

2. Choose the Domain in which you'd like to display your banner.

Make sure to have a cookie bar in all of your domains!

Cookie7.jpg

If the domain you chose already has a cookie bar, you will get an error message. If you wish to change the cookie bar of a specific domain, delete or pause the active cookie bar or edit it to fit your needs.

Language Options

You may create more than one cookie banner for your domain by matching the domain's cookie.

Enable this feature if, for example, your domain can be shown in different languages.

Start by clicking Show language options.

langauge1_02.jpg

Enter a cookie name and value in order for this cookie banner to be displayed whenever the cookie matches.

lang2_02.jpg

Remember to create a separate cookie banner for each cookie name and value.

3. Choose your Cookie Strategy. These two options are very different, so pay close attention:

Soft Consent means that the cookie banner will inform visitors about their cookie policy and that, upon navigating the website, they are providing consent. Visitors may leave the page if they do not agree.

By choosing Required Accept, visitors must provide cookie consent by clicking accept. The data will only be tracked once they click accept. Otherwise, the cookie banner will not disappear.

Messaging

Let's make sure that your cookie banner has the right message and link.

Cookie15.jpg

1. Add your Cookie Banner message in the Message field. Make sure to be clear and concise, since visitors appreciate honesty.

Consider your Cookie Strategy to tailor your message accordingly:

"Soft Consent means that the cookie banner will inform visitors about their cookie policy and that, upon navigating the website, they are providing consent. Visitors may leave the page if they do not agree."

"By choosing Required Accept, visitors must provide cookie consent, otherwise the cookie banner will not disappear. The data will only be tracked once they click accept."

2. In CTA Message, write the text for your consent button.

This, however, is exclusive to the Required Accept strategy.

  About the Privacy Policy Link

The following steps are mandatory for both Required Accept and Soft Consent. Your cookie banner must contain a privacy policy link in order to allow users to find out more about how you will use their information.

2. Add a link to your privacy policy in the Privacy Policy Link field.

Cookie18.jpg

3. Write a Privacy Policy Link Text to be displayed, so that when they click that text they will be sent to the page you entered.

  Quick Design Tip

Consider that the colour of the banner should coordinate with the colour of the font. The suggested black colour on the top right is a slightly toned down black, optimal for reading text in white backgrounds.

Don't forget to be consistent! If your brand already has pre-defined colours, make sure to choose a colour combination that favours what has already been chosen for your brand and your website.

3. If you already have a standard colour, enter the colour code in the Hex box.

4. Go ahead and enter the colour in RGB format if you prefer that method
